Rhubarb Spoon Cake

Rhubarb Spoon Cake

You guys, I am really, really excited about this post! A couple of months ago, I got an email asking if I was interested in learning more about a new cookbook called The Lost Kitchen: Recipes and a Good Life found in Freedom, MaineThe title caught my attention so I read on, and quickly realized that this sounded like one of the coolest cookbooks, ever. They sent over a copy and I’m so excited to share a recipe from it today: rhubarb spoon cake. It’s so ridiculously good and easy to make, too!

The Nordstrom Anniversary Pre-Sale

Happy Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opening day! This is hands down my favorite sale of the year, ever. If you read more than a handful of blogs you’ve probably already heard this already so I’ll hop right to the highlights and sale picks.

Things to know: This is the annual sale where Nordstrom discounts hundreds or thousands of fall items for a couple of weeks. When the sale ends, all the prices go back up to normal. It’s weird to think about shopping for fall and winter this time of year, but it’s so worth it for the savings! My favorite thing about the Anniversary Sale is that it includes TONS of basics and classics that can actually be work year-round. Think designer jeans, bras, workout clothes, travel wraps, tees, high end candles (this set was my favorite purchase last year and they sold out within a day), and so much more.

July 13: Sale opens to Nordstrom cardholders (this is the pre-sale, happening now)
July 21: Sale opens to the public
August 6: Sale ends and prices go back up

What I’d recommend: Take stock of what you need and when in doubt, place the order and get multiple sizes. Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns on everything so you can always send back what doesn’t work out. It’s easy to get carried away, though, which is why I recommend assessing your closet and taking stock, or just be prepared to make returns if you overbuy (*guilty*). My favorite things to buy in this sale are actually bras (these are my favorite for everyday and this is the best supportive sports bra, ever) and workout stuff, followed by jeans and booties. I’m debating finally springing for a cashmere wrap this year!

What you can expect from me: Like I said, Nordstrom does a fantastic job including the classics and pieces you’ll keep forever. If you’re a regular around here you probably know that trends aren’t really my thing, so most of what I’ll be rounding up will be practical, simple, and high-quality items that may have higher price tags but are worthwhile investments. Obviously who doesn’t like fast fashion…so some more fun, current pieces will be thrown in, too!

Since the items went live very early this morning and I do need to hop off to work, I’ve done a preliminary comb through of the sale and pulled major highlights. Basically I’ve kind of familiarized myself with the types of things that get marked down (beyond the catalog they put out, since I’ve been shopping this sale from literally the age of four or five) and did a quick search for those items this morning to make sure and share them for those of you who are shopping with a Nordstrom card. If you aren’t a cardholder and have to wait for next week, fear not! Add stuff to your cart now and figure out the gaps in your wardrobe that need to be filled. Items do frequently get restocked and I think they actually add things to the sale, too. If you can shop the pre-sale I recommend it because there have been a few things I’ve seen sell out and not get restocked in years past (two years ago it was a Barbour jacket I really wanted, similar to this one, and I missed it since I didn’t have a store card!)

What I’ve bought so far: This morning, I picked up a couple of my favorite bras, a sports brathis beautiful top in white (such a steal!), this cardigan, and the cashmere wrap to try out.

Check back tomorrow for more favorites broken up by category–today’s post is essentially my 15 “top picks” so far! There will be things to wear to work, workout stuff, men’s stuff, and more :)
