Friday Things

Friday Things

It feels weird to talk about fall when it’s over 80 degrees outside, so here are some pumpkins instead.

I’m gearing up for a fun weekend in Richmond with Katie! We’re staying at the newly renovated Jefferson Hotel and are planning to explore the city and hit up a cidery on Saturday. Despite living in DC for five years total (one being seven months during college), I’ve never been to Richmond and am excited to check it out! People who are from there or have lived there always have so much city pride that I’m pretty sure it’s actually really underrated :) If you have any recommendations, please send them my way!

SHOPPING: The time of year when allll the summer stuff is super marked down yet all you want to do is shop for fall…but you know I love a good deal, so here are a bunch of warm weather finds that make sense to buy now and wear later, because you’ll thank yourself a few months from now.

– I want to try Hitha’s recipe for an egg roll bowl–a deconstructed version of one of my favs? Yes, please!

– If you’re looking to up your photography game and don’t know where to start, bookmark Katie’s post on DSLR photography–it’s really digestible and thorough for bloggers and non-bloggers alike!

– Croatia is a country I’ve been wanting to visit for years (before it was trendy, I swear)…I did a homestay in northern Italy on the Slovenian border the summer before my freshman year of high school, and we were talking about making it to Croatia but were too tight on time to have it work out. Anyway, it’s seemingly turned into the place to go (thanks in part to GoT) and if it isn’t on your travel destination wishlist, it will be now! Everyone I know who has been said only good things, so fingers crossed we can make it happen in the next couple of years.

– The pot de crème at Le Diplomate is hands down my favorite dessert in DC, yet I’ve never even tried to make a version of this dessert on my own at home! May need to start with this hot chocolate pot de crème recipe.

– Andddd one more fall recipe for ya: this honeycrisp pandowdy. I’ve never even heard of a pandowdy before but it looks and sounds amazing so we’re going to give it a try (ideally post-apple picking!)

All-you-can-fly from NYC to Paris? Not a joke!

Hope everyone had a nice week! Mine was pretty uneventful in a good way–the highlight was definitely trying out the new District Winery with Katie, Laura, and Kristyn, followed by dinner at Osteria Morini, which never disappoints. The winery is right on the waterfront in Navy Yard and is a stunning space…the area where you can do tasting is pretty small, so it probably gets crowded at prime times. We got there around 6:30 on Wednesday and it was great!

A couple college friends will be in town this weekend (the perfect excuse for a great bottomless brunch!) and the agenda unsurprisingly includes lots of food. I’m going to hit Orangetheory and barre3 in between since I’m happy to be consistently working out again and want to stick with it! Have a great one, friends :)

SHOPPING: Both Banana Republic and J.Crew are dominating in the new arrivals department! Lots of great pieces below, including some gems from the ‘Crew sale section:

– Ahead of what’s sure to be an imminent engagement announcement from the Palace: Meghan Markle opens up on life and love to Vanity Fair.

– We’re entering prime slow cooker season and I’m definitely adding this Greek chicken to the recipe list–talk about a happy desk lunch salad for leftovers!

– Speaking of fall and cooking, Julia’s paleo pumpkin bread seems pretty simple and worth a try (these are my go-to but having an alternative with less sugar would be great)

Jenn shared her home tour! If you live in a studio or small space, take notes! I love how patient she was when it came to carefully choosing each piece rather than rushing to buy everything upon moving in–it really make all the difference.

17 exciting restaurants opening around the world this fall.

Inside the home of Drybar founder Ali Webb–#backyardgoals is a thing.

Friday Things

It’s kind of nuts that it’s almost mid-September but I’ll take it, and any glimpses of fall weather that continue to come our way! This has been a really low key week in a good way…had a casual wine + pizza night with friends on Wednesday, but otherwise just worked out and spent a lot of time on the couch. The latter–well, all of the above–isn’t something I’ve really done much of in the past few months (and will be elaborating on this soon) and it’s been really nice to slow down a bit. The weekend’s plans include a whole lot of nothing, and I’m really happy about that :) Stay safe if you are in the path of Irma, and if you’re not, keep everyone down south in your thoughts.

PS: How you can support Harvey relief.

SHOPPING: We placed a big L.L. Bean order earlier this week–I picked up a couple of my favorite flannels, finally let myself cave and get this lightweight pullover, and we actually got this coffee table in coffee bean and these lamps in ivory (yes, they sell furniture and it’s great!). Also, thanks to Ashlee for catching at this cashmere wrap is 50% off right now…it’s an amazing deal for an all-purpose winter piece you’ll keep for years! There’s seriously nothing like a good travel wrap.

More things that caught my eye this week…

– Hello, swooning over Alaina’s home tour–I’ve been following her/The Everygirl for years and this is by far one of the best tours I’ve ever seen! Not to mention the before and after photos…lots of ideas are brewing :) #sorrywallet #sorryJ

Ashlee recently launched her own contracts for creatives business! If you’re a blogger or other creative who needs some legal work done, I can’t recommend her enough. Not only is she a good friend who is incredibly warm and kind, she’s insanely smart and someone I trust for advice in all aspects of my life. Make sure and keep her site on hand reach out next time you’re trying to navigate the legal world!

– I’ve talked about TRUFFLE before–most importantly as one of my top travel essentials–and they just released some stadium-approved crossbody bags that would be a great investment if you’re planning on attending some games at stadiums with bag restrictions. They’re also reasonable priced ($68) and come in three colors!

– I end up pinning nearly all of Charlotte’s recipes, and this butterscotch chocolate fudge is no different. How good would it be as we get into fall + the holidays (especially as a hostess gift?)

– Lake Como is one of my favorite places and if you ever make it there, Bellagio is a must. Krista is there right now and this post has me wanting to book a trip back! It’s really one of the most magical places out there.

– Speaking of travel, here are five places I wish I were traveling to this month.

ON C&L:

– I take a lot pride in being able to great a great deal at CVS (random, I know)–here’s how I do it!

– My favorite easy homemade chocolate chip recipe.
